Jo Savage Memorial
In 2007, the Jo Savage Memorial Garden was created in the Arboretum site near the Lewis Alumni Centre. Jo Savage was a talented graphic designer working at Washington State University for over 32 years. Jo died unexpectedly in a tragic car accident in Spokane in 2006, leaving an empty spot in the hearts of the WSU community.
Jo Savage received her master of fine arts degree from Washington State University in 1970 and worked on publication of Washington State Magazine for many years. Jo was an avid gardener and active in many civic causes, including the Pullman Civic Trust and the WSU Arboretum Committee.
Jo Savage worked on the WSU Arboretum Committee as co-chair for many years, spear heading campus arboretum issues. Jo's work was pivotal in many campus arboretum and green space projects, including the establishment of the Alumni Arboretum.
Because of Jo's love of gardening and her hope for the WSU Arboretum and Wildlife Conservation Center, a small garden plot was established in the Alumni Arboretum near the central path and seating area overlooking the Lewis Alumni Centre. As this arboretum site matures, it will continue to growth in beauty and we welcome you to visit the Lewis Alumni Centre and here enjoy a quiet moment away from the busy central campus.
